Tanger holds job fair for new outlet mall

MEBANE

The new retail center is expected to bring more than 800 jobs to the area along with more than 80 stores including Saks Off Fifth, Banana Republic, Gap and Nike.

Tanger officials say the stores will provide a shopping alternative for residents who normally travel to Concord or Smithfield to shop.

"I think it will be a good thing for the economy as far as bringing people from the Triad and Greensboro here to shop and not have to go out of town in Smithfield and the outlets in other towns and cities," Greensboro resident Katurah Powell explained. "It will be right here in our home."

Tanger Outlets General Manager Kathy Hacksaw says the company is hiring janitors, maintenance workers, customer service associates, part-time assistant store managers and store managers.

Officials say the mall is in a perfect location, which could also work well for potential employees. The center is off of I-40 between Burlington and the Triangle. It's also less than 30 minutes from Greensboro.

The fair was held at the Mebane Arts and Community, which is just down the road from the outlet center.
