Paratroopers killed in Fayetteville wreck

FAYETTEVILLE

The crash happened on the All American Freeway Saturday near Skibo Road around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

Sgt. James Abell, 32, of Sheridan, Wyo., and Sgt. Christopher Parodi, 24, of Los Angeles, were pronounced dead at 7 a.m. at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Abell served as a retention NCO in 1st Battalion, 321st Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade (Airborne).

After joining the U. S. Army in March 2005, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in July 2005 as a cannoneer.

Abell's most recent deployments were to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Parodi joined the U.S. Army in Jan. 2007 and served as an ammunition handler in 1st Battalion, 321st Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade (Airborne).

Parodi's most recent deployment was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Both Abell and Parodi are survived by their parents.
