Standoff now in second day

SILER CITY

The standoff began around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening when deputies tried to serve warrants on the man at the home on Greenhill Drive.

Officers say he barricaded himself inside the house and began firing a gun at deputies. They returned fire.

Officers with the Siler City Police Department, the State Highway Patrol, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department are now also on the scene with Chatham deputies.

The man in the home has not been identified and deputies have not said what he was wanted for.
