FBI tries to identify serial bank robber

RLAEIGH

The most recent robbery was Saturday, October 2 at the SunTrust on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh. According to authorities, it was the second time he robbed that branch. The first time was August 2009.

Investigators say the suspect resurfaced last week after the robbery in 2009. On September 24, 2010, the SunTrust on University Drive in Durham was robbed.

Five more robberies followed. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion who is 35-50 years old. He is about 5'8," heavy set and has facial hair.

Surveillance cameras have captured images of him wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap in many of the robberies. Detectives say he may live in the Greensboro area.

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation of the cases is asked to call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at 919-834-HELP or Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays rewards for tips that help solve cases.

The North Carolina Bankers Association also offers a reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of anyone responsible for robbing a bank in North Carolina.
