Group delivers Froot Loops to lawmaker

RALEIGH

The e-mail from Rep. Larry Brown (R- Kernersville) obtained by ABC11 was in response to a message from House Minority Leader Paul Stam of Apex about House Speaker Joe Hackney getting an award from the Equality NC Foundation, a gay-rights group.

"I hope all the queers are thrilled to see him," reads the message. "I am sure there will be a couple legislative fruitloops there in the audience."

In response, Equality North Carolina collected nearly 300 boxes of Froot Loops cereal, and planned to deliver them to Brown's Raleigh office on Thursday.

It didn't go quite as planned. The group went to the wrong building and was stopped by security officers who told them the cereal would be delivered.

Each box will be accompanied with a personal message from the person who donated it.

"Rep. Brown's attack on [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] citizens of our state cannot go unchallenged," said Ian Palmquist, Executive Director of Equality North Carolina. "Hundreds of people disgusted by Rep. Brown's comments have responded by sending messages and boxes of Froot Loops to his office."

Brown sent his e-mail to about 60 people. He has not responded to a request for comment.
