Counselor charged with taking indecent liberties

CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Cumberland County sheriff's detectives say 36-year-old Rebecca Brooke Olson of Stedman engaged in a sexual act with the teen while he was visiting her home. Authorities did not say when the alleged act occurred.

Olson worked at J.W. Seabrooke Elementary School, but according to published reports, she has been fired.

The victim was not a student at the school, but a friend of her son's.

Investigators say the victim's mother notified authorities.

"We were told that some photographs were found on the student's phone and this connected the student with the guidance counselor," Debbie Tanna, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, told ABC11 Eyewitness News.

Investigators say Olson turned herself in Thursday.

Tanna says this should serve as a warning to parents.

"It should make parents a little nervous about who their children are spending time with," she said.

Olson is free on bond, and a judge ordered her to stay away from the the 14-year-old boy. Investigators say they are unaware of any more victims.
