Deputy crashes while responding to call

WAKE COUNTY

The deputy was not seriously injured and no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.

According to Highway Patrol officials, the deputy was on the way to a call about a woman being assaulted around 2:30 a.m. on Needham Rd.

As he responded to the call, he lost control of his cruiser and crashed on Forestville Road, just east of Raleigh. The Highway Patrol told ABC11 Eyewitness News the weather and speed contributed to the crash.

Authorities say although the deputy did not make it to the scene, the woman received help and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Deputies did not provide details about the assault.

The name of the deputy was not released.
