Family searched for victim long before calling police

RALEIGH

David Green, Jr.'s remains were found earlier this month at his home on Ray Road -- just north of the Raleigh city limits. According to his family, Green had been missing almost two years.

His brother, Avery Green, says the family searched for David a long time before realizing they needed to involve law enforcement.

Court documents indicate that detectives believe Green may have been murdered in early 2009.

In a statement issued this morning via e-mail, Avery Green said he is speaking for his family.

"We are devastated by David Jr.'s death and could have never imagined the bewildering set of circumstances surrounding his murder," Avery Green said in the statement. "The Wake County Sheriff's department and district attorney's office have our 100 percent support as they thoroughly investigate and try all persons responsible for this murder."

Wendy Green, David Green's live-in girlfriend and mother of their two children, was the first to be arrested and charged with murder.

Sources now say the couple's son and daughter also have been arrested for murder and conspiracy. However, because they were under the age of 16 at the time of the crime, their cases are in juvenile court and are not public record.

The family's statement goes on to say, "David, Jr. was a wonderful, loving, son, brother, cousin and friend to all that knew him. We are deeply saddened by the loss of David, Jr. at the hands of those he loved most."

Although the DA's office has not formally said whether it will attempt to try Green's children as adults, it has prosecuted other children as young as 13.

That decision would ultimately be up to a judge.
