UNC system dealing with money issues

The 17-campus system is facing a budget crisis and leaders have been told to be prepared to cut budgets by as much as 10 percent, which could result in 1,700 positions being cut system-wide.

Outgoing-president Erskine Bowles told the Board of Governors Thursday that they will have to close some campuses if the cuts reach 20 percent.

It is unclear at this time when final budget decisions will be made.
