New ABC News president worked in Raleigh

RALEIGH

Sherwood replaces David Westin, who announced earlier in the fall that he would be stepping down after 14 years.

Sherwood started at ABC News in 1989 as a producer for the "Primetime Live" newsmagazine. He also has worked at NBC News.

Early in his career in 1984-1985, during a year off from college, Sherwood worked for The News and Observer in Raleigh; the Los Angeles Times Paris bureau and the United Nations Border Relief Operation in Aranyaprathet, Thailand.

Besides his work as a journalist, Sherwood is an author who wrote the novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud." He is a founder of a website that is a resource for people surviving in the face of adversity.
