Police officer charged after crash

DURHAM

Investigators said Officer L.A. Harvey was in a marked police vehicle with his lights and siren activated when the accident happened.

He was headed north on Roxboro Road near I-85 when his car rammed the driver’s side door of a 1993 Cadillac driven by Avery Hunt of Durham at Roxboro Road and I-85 Access Road.

The front of Harvey's car was ripped off by the impact.

He never made it to the burglary call in the 1900 block of Washington Street. Other officers responded instead.

Harvey and Hunt were checked out by emergency workers at the scene, but neither was seriously hurt.

A Durham police spokesperson said Harvey was charged with running a red light. Hunt was charged with driving with a revoked license, no insurance, using a fictitious registration, and having an unregistered vehicle.
