Woman struck, killed by train

RALEIGH The accident happened around 10 p.m. Monday at the crossing at Carolina Pines Nick and Granite Street.

The conductor of a Norfolk Southern train called authorities to report they hit a pedestrian on the tracks.

Officials identified the woman as Rebecca Smith Vasquez of Raleigh. They say why she was on the tracks remains unclear.

Further details surrounding the accident have not been released at this time.
