Workers rupture gas line, streets close

CARY N. Dixon Avenue from West Chatham to Holloway Street, Holloway Street, N. West Street and Hillsboro Street from N. West Street to N. Harrison Avenue were all closed, after contractors working for the Town ruptured a two inch gas line around 5:30 p.m.

PSNC Energy crews worked for several hours to fix the line and were able to complete the repair around 9 p.m. The roads were re-opened a short time later.

About 20 to 25 houses were without gas. No evacuations were ordered, but some people reportedly could smell the fumes.
