Volunteers brave icy roads to help people

DURHAM

The organization delivered hot meals to more than 300 seniors in Durham on Tuesday.

Staying off the icy roads is not an option for these volunteers. “Yes, it’s really important. A lot of our clients depend on our meal to come and be delivered to them every day,” said Binta Watkins, Volunteer Coordinator for Meals on Wheels.

The service provides more than just food. Volunteers also make sure their homebound clients are in good condition.

Meals on Wheels Operations Director David Logan said, “With the weather being as bad as it is, it’s important that we talk to see our clients and talk to them and make sure they are doing well.”
