Investigators say it began with a domestic dispute at a home at 707 Colony Square around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Monty Kwantre Garner, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, is accused of assaulting his 21-year-old girlfriend and another woman.
The other woman went to her home and asked her husband for help. The 40-year-old grabbed a sword and tried to stop the assault.
Police say Garner grabbed the sword from the man and used it to cut him on the arm and right side of his body.
The victim was treated at Nash General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have arrest warrants for Garner to charge him with assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
He has not been found.
