The 2011 Volkswagen Touareg was located in the Murchison Road area. It was reported stolen in Raleigh.
Detectives said they were processing the vehicle for evidence and hoped what they find combined with surveillance video of the robbery will lead them to the robber(s).
The robbery and attack happened just after 6:30 p.m. December 23 at the Gold Factory at 5075 Morganton Road.
According to detectives, a man wearing what appeared to be a clown mask entered the store through the front door and confronted the owner as he was taking out the trash.
The man immediately shot the owner and then hit him with his handgun.
In an exclusive interview Monday with ABC11, the owner - who asked we not identify him - talked about what happened.
"The guy came point blank. He shot me in the shoulder right there and I fell down. The blood, the arm just went down," he said.
The robber then forced the owner's wife to open the cash register. He also fired another shot inside the store and shattered glass cases containing jewelry.
Detectives say the man got away with an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry.
The owner's wife said the quick work of a woman who helped her husband right after the shooting likely saved his life.
"The first one who came in was a nurse. And, she just took down some of the sweaters that were hanging and she tried to stop his blood flow," she said.
Police say there were two other suspects outside the store and possibly another driving the getaway car.
Anyone with information that might help investigators crack the case is asked to call Detective Walker at (910) 433-1851 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS
