The body of a man was discovered on the ground on the All American Trail, on the western side of Fort Bragg, near Plank and King roads. A section of the trail runs along the Hoke County line.
Investigators from the Army's Criminal Investigation Command have combed the scene as part of their investigation. CID routinely handles deaths on Fort Bragg.
They haven't released the name of the solider or how he died.
The All American Trail is used by civilians and members of the military.
"I primarily use it for running and as far as the running trail goes there is a lot of terrain and everything that you can go run around," Fort Bragg Soldier Luke Keller said.
He and others say until they know what happened; they'll be on the alert for any trouble along the trail.
Fort Bragg officials say the hiking trail remains open to the public.
Authorities also say they do not think this latest death is in any way connected with the death of a civilian near the path last fall.
