NC Democratic Party picks Parker as next leader

RALEIGH Outgoing Chairman David Young says executive committee members Saturday elected the Statesville attorney to a two-year term during a meeting in Raleigh.

Parker defeated current state Rep. Bill Faison of Orange County and former state party First Vice Chair Dannie Montgomery of Anson County. Young did not seek a second term.

The candidates have had critical words about the party in 2010, saying it lacked a unified message. Parker has said he would immediately create an association of county chairmen and hold "breakout sessions" for members to talk about issues such as new media, community organization and small business.
