Police said it happened at Bragg Boulevard and Cape Fear Avenue around 6:40 a.m.
According to the initial investigation, a sedan in-bound on Bragg Blvd left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Police identified the dead person as 22-year-old Elizabeth White of Morning Glory Drive in Stedman. She was a front seat passenger.
"She just lit everybody's day. She's going to be sorely missed. She helped everybody she could. Of course she has a surviving daughter, Trisha. Our hearts go out to her," said family friend David Isham.
Driver Richard White Jr., 27, also of Morning Glory Drive, was listed in critical condition. Rear passenger Carl Chipman, 33, of Cedar Hill Drive in Fayetteville has minor injuries.
Police were asking any witnesses to the crash to come forward. Call (910) 433-1036 and ask for Officer D.W. West.
Officers said White was driving with a suspended license.
The investigation continues.
