Man fatally shot inside Fayetteville apartment

FAYETTEVLLE Crime scene technicians and homicide detectives are trying to get a clear picture of exactly why 27-year-old Patrick Lloyd was killed.

Police say he was found mortally wounded around 2:30 p.m. in his Facility Drive apartment off Ramsey Street.

Detectives also found numerous shell casings outside the residence.

Officers are still working to see if the shooting is related to a running gun battle a few minutes earlier between suspects in two cars speeding along Ramsey Street.

Officers stopped one car and captured one of several suspects who jumped and ran.

It was right after that the call came in about shots fired on Facility Drive near the campus of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Police say the hospital was not involved in the incident.

"They were already on scene on North Street they had already captured the suspect, had the car pulled over had the suspect from that," Fayetteville Police Sgt. John Somerindyke said. "Then they received a call about shots fired on Facility Drive, and then got here and a citizen pointed out the back door of a residence was unsecured."

When officers went inside they found Lloyd. Police say he later died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Authorities are still trying to determine if and how the two shooting incidents are related.
