Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced Friday the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.Sgt. Matthew J. Deyoung, 26, of Talent, Ore., died while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

Deyoung joined the Marine Corps in November 2004, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in June of 2008.

He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2006 to August 2006, and again from October 2007 to May 2008.

Most recently, he depoyed to Afghanistan in November of 2010.

Deyoung is survived by his wife and child.
