It was a Hail Mary try with tears and pleas. Dozens of parents tried to convince board members that closing the school is a bad idea.
Parents say the school of choice is one of the top schools in the state, but the Moore County school superintendent has recommended closing it to help pare down a $3.8 million deficit in next year's budget.
At Monday's meeting, parents argued there were other ways to close the gap without closing the school.
Many parents asked board members to delay closing the school for a year and work on alternative solutions.
Board members vote on next year's budget on April 4. Parents say between now and then they hope school board members think hard about what they heard Monday night.
