Investigators say Lewis' mother, 79-year-old Hazel Tolbert Byrd was found dead in a home the pair shared on November 19, 2010.
Lewis called EMS and reported her mother was unresponsive. When ambulance crews arrived on the scene, Byrd was lying in several days worth of feces and was filthy.
Byrd had several bedsores, her hair was matted and the skin between her toes had grown together.
Lewis, who confirmed she was her mother's caregiver, said her mother was given medication for diabetes and high blood pressure in 2005, but never took her back to the doctor after that office visit.
Lewis is charged with domestic abuse, neglect and exploitation of disabled or elder adults.
She was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center after posting a $5,000 bond.
