Raleigh police arrested 39-year-old Scott Sidney for the Johnston County Sheriff's Office. He is charged with fraudulent burning of a building and burning an unoccupied dwelling.
He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
Pictures from 85 Majestic Lane - about four miles south of Clayton - show extensive damage to Sidney's single story house. Flames burned through the roof.
Investigators say they believe the fire was set intentionally.
Sources tell ABC11 that Sidney and his wife had an argument before the fire.
The Town of Cary confirmed that Scott Sidney was an employee until he retired from the fire department in 2009.
