Relatives overcome with grief watched as investigators looked for clues in the mysterious death of their loved one.
Investigators say the body of 41-year-old Sandra Denise Thomas was found in a ditch Tuesday morning. A worker and a passerby made the discovery and called 911.
Police roped off the neighborhood to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Investigators have yet to say how she may have died.
Family members tell ABC11 Eyewitness News Thomas lived near the neighborhood where she was found. Some family members say they had seen her Monday night, but they are not sure how or why she ended up on Lawrence Street.
Thomas' body has been taken to the medical examiner in Chapel Hill for autopsy.
