Another caller told an operator that the animals fell out the back of a truck.
"There's a truck on I-40 that's dropping pigs," she said. "I'm on I-40 west just before you get to Miami Boulevard."
"There are cars backed up behind them. I don't know if anybody hit them yet," the caller continued.
Police said the first call about the animals came in at 8:19 a.m. Officers were able to quickly corral the five porkers, but the incident stalled the morning rush hour for hundreds of drivers.

Amazingly, no accidents were reported.
The animals - one of which appeared to be injured - were taken to a vet to be checked out and then Durham Animal Control.
Officials said Thursday morning that the owner had yet to come forward. If the pigs aren't claimed, they'll be put up for public auction.
