Money Saver Report: Finding deals for families

A few websites can really stretch a family's dollar - from free meals for kids, to savings on clothing and playtime.

Locally, Amy Rucker is about to launch a new website - plumdistrict.com - in the Triangle.

"It is a daily deal site for moms and we go out and source deals that will make a moms life easier," Rucker said. "We're going to give your kids activities you can purchase; we're going to give you spa things to pamper yourself. We are also going to give you deals at the local grocery stores. I think it's going to be a new exciting thing for moms in the area."

Plumdistrict.com is one of many online daily deal sites popping up that is catering specifically to families and providing discounts on everything from clothing to karate lessons.

Some others are livingsocial.com for families and thekidsdeals.com, which promises savings on everything from track out camps to birthday parties.

And the savings are huge.

"I'd say between 50 percent and 80 percent off at local vendors," Rucker said.

There is also a website - mykidseatfree.com - that parents can check out every day that lets you know exactly where your kids can eat for free.
