According to Sergeant R.E. Dudley, Richardson then turned around, and tried to catch the speeding vehicle.
"The violator had passed a Hummer SUV and Trooper Richardson was initiating a pass of the SUV when he noticed a pedestrian in the road," Dudley said.
Richardson swerved to avoid the pedestrian, ran off the road to the left, went down an embankment, and hit several trees, before overturning end-over-end, and coming to rest on the drivers side, according to Dudley.
The trooper had to be extricated from his patrol car, and was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
The speeding suspect has not been located, and the accident investigation continues.
