High school student dies in fall

A fall at Raleigh Charter High School has left an 18-year-old senior dead.

Mehdy Hazheer was hurt in the fall Friday night. He was in WakeMed's neurological intensive care unit for two days before he succumbed to his injuries.

Hazheer was to have graduated on Saturday. His death prompted an outpouring of sympathy on social media websites like Facebook.

Over 450 people posted on his Facebook Support Page. Their comments paint a picture of a remarkable young man.

"Mehdy was the angel in our community. His life was short but for sure, he had touched each and every one of us in the most positive way," wrote one person.

At Raleigh Charter, he led the Interfaith Alliance, the Social Justice club, and the Islam club. He was also in the Model United Nations, a member the National Honor Society, and he coordinated relief efforts for tornado and tsunami victims.
