Who shot elderly Fayetteville man?

FAYETTEVILLE Police say 71-year-old August Hosack was shot while in his car on Orlando Street earlier this week.

His family say Hosack was shot in the leg and bled to death. His body was later discovered on Monday evening. They think robbery was the motive.

"You wonder who would rob somebody and shoot them, and not have remorse," Hosack's son Bob Hosack said. "He would give you the shirt off his back; he helped a lot of people in the community."

Relatives and friends are at a loss as to why Hosack was on Orlando Street, which is in the Massey Hill community just off Camden Road.

Family members believe he may have given someone a ride or was going to or coming back from his church a few blocks away.

Family members say they are ready to forgive the killer or killers if they give themselves up.

"I'm ready for closure, it would be nice if they would turn themselves in just for the closure," Bob Hosack said.

Anyone who has information in relation to the murder of August Hosack is asked to call detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 549-7326 or CrimeStoppers (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
