Two arrested in $14,000 copper theft

RALEIGH Raleigh police say around 5:30 a.m. on July 29, they received a call about 42 spools of copper wire missing from the construction site of the new Wake County Justice Center on S. Salisbury Street.

Police later arrested 27-year-old Ernest Coy Daw and 29-year-old Weston McKinley Auston Taylor on Thursday and charged them with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen property.

Both are currently in the Wake County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

Authorities say more than half of the stolen wire has been recovered.
