It happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. inside a first floor apartment unit on the 1700 block of south 18th street.
Authorities say both children, a 12-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were each stabbed multiple times in the torso.
The mother was arrested at the scene and subsequently transported to Hospital of University of Pennsylvania for treatment of wounds she inflicted upon herself.
There is no word on if there was anyone else at the home during the incident.
