It happened around 6 a.m. Thursday at the Wayne County Detention Center in Goldsboro. Deputies said 21-year-old Karen Rebecca Jones became ill and an ambulance was called.
When EMS workers arrived, they pronounced Jones dead.
Jones was serving a 7-day sentence for a DWI conviction.
