Duke's Coach K makes history

DURHAM

Coach K became the winningest college basketball coach in Division I men's basketball with a win over Michigan State.

No. 6 Duke won 74-69 in the State Farm Champions Classic.

Duke's win over Presbyterian Saturday put Coach K in the record books with his mentor Bob Knight. They were tied with 902 career wins.

Tuesday night's game against Michigan State in New York's Madison Square Garden gave Coach K 903.

Knight was Krzyzewski's college coach at Army and his mentor throughout his professional career.

Tuesday night, Junior guard Andre Dawkins had 26 points for Duke, which took control with a 20-1 run that gave the Blue Devils a 61-41 lead with 9:17 to play and then it was just a matter of counting down the minutes until the celebration could get under way.
