It happened around 2:20 a.m. on U.S. 15-501 South near the N.C. 751 exit.
Authorities said Rucker, of South Adams Street in Durham, was driving southbound when he lost control of his 2007 Nissan Altima and ran off the side of the road. The car then hit a metal sign pole.
Rucker was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person inside the car when the accident happened.
According to investigators, speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
