Woman bonds out of jail after fatal wreck

RALEIGH

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Lynn and Lead Mine roads in Raleigh.

Police said the then-20-year-old Stevens was driving her 2004 Jeep SUV southbound on Lead Mine Road when she ran a red light and hit 32-year-old Dewahn Ahmad Tyler as he drove eastbound on Lynn Road.

Tyler was taken to WakeMed where he later died from his injuries.

Stevens was also taken to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries. After being released from the hospital, she was taken to the Wake County Jail, where she later bonded out.

Stevens, who turned 21 on Monday, was originally charged with DWI and underage driving while impaired.

Police said after further investigation, additional charges of felony death by vehicle, failure to stop for a steady red light, and exceeding 45 mph in a 45 mph zone were filed.

Stevens is expected to appear in court Friday morning.
