Woman pedestrian killed in Raleigh identified

RALEIGH

Around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, a truck hit Melissa Johnson, as she was crossing South Saunders Street near Maywood Drive.

Detectives were looking for a dark-colored, mid-sized pick-up truck which they said should have front-end damage. It was last seen traveling southbound on South Saunders Street.

Earlier Sunday, another pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car on Western Boulevard. That accident happened around 3 a.m. near Carolina Avenue.

The driver was not harmed.

Raleigh police were investigating the cause of the crash and did not release the name of the pedestrian. It was not clear if any charges would be filed against the driver.
