First Night Raleigh sets record attendance

January 2, 2012 6:31:00 PM PST
Raleigh city officials say a record crowd gathered downtown for the First Night celebration.

The New Year's Eve tradition includes the annual acorn drop. Raleigh city leaders say, while they don't have final attendance numbers yet, the crowd was even larger this year than the millennium year.

The rain free night and warm temperatures may have played a role in driving up this year's turnout.

First Night Raleigh's Terri Dollar says night of sales were way beyond anything they have done before.
