Firefighters rushed to the home at 257 Heflin Road after a call came in to 911 around 7:30 a.m. from a female caller who said her kitchen was on fire and she couldn't get out.
Rescuers were unable to get to the woman in time.
When firefighters put out the blaze, they found the bodies of two women who are believed to be 81-year-old Judith Seabolt and her 60-year-old daughter Patrica Rogers.
The bodies were sent to the medical examiner in Chapel Hill for positive identification.
While it's believed the fire began in the kitchen, investigators were trying to pinpoint the cause.
