Firefighter's daughter released from hospital

DURHAM

Authorities say Jonathan "Scott" Nipper, 43, crossed the center line and struck a Volkswagen head-on Dec. 21.  He did not survive the crash.

His 10-year-old daughter, Gracie, was in the hospital since the wreck and has undergone multiple surgeries. She was released from Duke University Medical Center Monday.

Gracie's injuries forced her to miss her father's funeral, held Dec. 28.

Scott Nipper was a captain at the Raleigh Fire Department. The Creedmoor man joined the department in 1996.
