Bomb threat at mental hospital

GOLDSBORO, N.C.

Base officials said the 4th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and 4th Security Forces Squadron canine unit arrived at the new Cherry Hospital around 7:45 a.m. to help local authorities with a possible bomb threat.

The new Cherry Hospital is currently under construction on W. Ash Street in Goldsboro. The facility is expected to be completed in December and fully operational by March 2013.

Cherry Hospital is the second of three state-of-the-art psychiatric facilities that North Carolina has built - or is building - to replace its aging state-operated psychiatric hospitals. Central Regional Hospital, Butner opened in July 2008. Construction began on a new Broughton Hospital in Morganton in spring 2011.

Other details about Thursday's bomb threat have not been released.
