Officials were called to Hurdle Hills Road in Cedar Grove overnight Friday after the man told them that a gun would be on top of a car when they arrived.
When deputies got to the scene they arrested 41-year-old Christopher Eugene Rone of Hillsborough.
His girlfriend, 33-year-old Custain Levoa Crist of Mebane, was found dead inside a home where the shooting happened.
Authorities said the pair had been dating since September.
Rone has been charged with first-degree murder.
Further details about the incident have not been released.
