School bus, pickup truck collide in Cumberland County

WADE, N.C.

It happened around 4 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301, south of Wade.

The State Highway Patrol told ABC11 that the bus was transporting students from Cape Fear High School and Mack Williams Middle School. It was stopped on Highway 301 and about to let off students when a pickup truck came failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the bus.

Parents says 17 students were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The pickup truck driver, 41-year-old Jesus Antonio Jose, was also transported to the hospital. He has been charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failing to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle. He was lasted listed in serious condition.
