The smoke is affecting areas around Cary, Apex and southern Wake County.
The burn took placeon just over 300 acres in the Beaver Creek and Pea Ridge Road area. ABC11 was told State Wildlife Commission started the controlled burn around 11 a.m.
Officials said they set the fire Wednesday because of favorable wind conditions.
The burn has now been stopped.
