Jury hears about $4 million life insurance policy

RALEIGH

With Michelle's sorority sister, Fiona Childs, on the stand, the jury heard about the couple's life insurance policies.

Childs, who is an attorney, said the couple argued over how much life insurance to buy.

"She brought it up about four or five times over that year preceding her death," Childs said. "She brought it up just saying she was concerned that it was too much."

Childs advised Michelle that a $1 million policy on her was a good thing. She found out after Michelle's murder that the couple had actually made it $2 million.

The policy doubled to $4 million because Michelle did not die a natural death.

Because Jason was a suspect, he did not get the payout. Instead the money went to Michelle's estate and will go to the couple's daughter, Cassidy.

Cassidy's C-section birth was also discussed in front of jurors Thursday. Childs told the court that Jason was fascinated watching the surgery.

"He said it was neat because he could look and see Michelle's, you know, body opened and that, you know, he could see her organs and stuff," said Childs.

Prosecutors also took an opportunity to show jurors the reckless side of Jason, when Childs testified of a time Jason drunkenly exposed himself at a friend's wedding.

The prosecution plans to call its last witness Friday, which will conclude the third week of the trial.
