Woman flees kidnapping, runs over suspect

RAEFORD, N.C.

Deputies said 20-year-old Matthew Ryan Jones had been run over. At the time, he was living at the home.

The female identified as the driver of the vehicle was identified as Amber Palma, who also lives at the residence.

Detectives conducted a criminal investigation and recovered a stolen handgun. They also discovered that Jones held Palma in the residence against her will while he assaulted her. He then transported her in a vehicle from one place to another.

Palma suffered multiple injuries during the incident and was attempting to flee from Ryan when she got into the car. Jones tried to stop her, but she ran him over.

Jones was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for severe injuries. Palma was also treated for her injuries.

After over three weeks, Jones surrendered himself to the Hoke County Sheriff Office Thursday and was charged with first degree kidnapping, assault by strangulation, and possession of a stolen firearm, among several other charges.

Additional charges may be forthcoming.
