Man charged with open house thefts

A Durham man is charged in a string of jewelry thefts at realtor open houses in Apex and Cary.

Peter Schieffelin Nyberg, 47, of Montrose Drive, was arrested Thursday.

He's a suspect in two thefts in Cary on Sunday and three more in Apex earlier this month.

The Apex thefts happened while the homes were being shown during open houses in the Scotts Mill and Walden Creek subdivisions. One of the homes hit in Cary Sunday was in the Preston subdivision.

Nyberg faces five counts of felony larceny.
