Gunfire broke out at a Rocky Mount mall Saturday evening, according to police.

Officers responded to the Golden East Crossing Mall around 7:20 p.m. after reports of gun shots fired inside the mall.

When police arrived on the scene, they did not find anyone injured in the shooting. Officials found five shell casings inside the mall.

Police said they are searching for two black males, aged 16-22, wearing blue jeans and t-shirts.

Officers have also responded to Nash Health Care Systems after a juvenile went to the hospital with a non-life-threatening graze wound. Officials believe the injured person was a victim in the mall shooting.

Police believe the incident started as a confrontation between two groups of teens or young adults that escalated.

The mall was closed after the incident, and remained closed for the rest of the evening.

Anyone with information should contact Rocky Mount Police.
