It happened in the 8200 block of Cliffdale Road around 8 p.m.
Authorities said the suspects got into the man's car and pointed a gun at him. The man struggled with one of the suspects to get control of the gun, when the second hit him on the head with a heavy object.
During the struggle, the gun went off and struck the windshield. The suspects then fled the scene on foot with some of the victim's personal items.
Police said the man drove to his house, where his wife then took him to Cape Fear Valley Hosptial. His name and condition have not been released.
