Fayetteville city manager resigns

FAYETTEVILLE

It's the latest twist into the fallout over controversial police searches in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne told ABC11 that Dale Iman will resign as city manager effective March 31.

Iman, as well as the police department, have been under scrutiny in the wake of the police consent searches.

Critics point to stats that showed a majority of Fayetteville police officers' searches in 2010 involved black drivers. Iman and Police Chief Tom Bergamine have repeatedly denied allegations that officers racially profile drivers. Iman was criticized for not notifying anyone when some of those numbers were changed.

With vacation time and other considerations, Iman's actual last day at work will be March 16.
